One point or rather question that I want to ask is why isn't there more discussion on alternative sources of energy? For example The Wind East Africa company in Singida. This was even a topic discussed in a Bunge session recently. See these videos below:

http://pushobserver.mediacore.tv/media/deputy-minister-of-minerals-presenting-on-wind-ene

http://pushobserver.mediacore.tv/media/minister-ngeleja-discussing-government-gas-policyAndrew Mahigahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07017284260190829364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1964830726550749649.post-43989812796219612062011-07-11T18:59:53.059+03:002011-07-11T18:59:53.059+03:00Well researched and written piece of work. In your comprehensive letter you have fulfilled your political duty and have also served as a think tank. I just wish someone would read, understand and act according to your well thought counsel. I also admire your frankness. It is healthy to discuss matter of public interest openly and without ambiguities. It takes courage to come openly as you did. You have given most of your readers including myself food for thought and a tool on which to make further inquiries on how this important sector is managed. May God bless you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1964830726550749649.post-67127953522476724292011-07-02T21:36:44.932+03:002011-07-02T21:36:44.932+03:00For a moment I am perplexed, whether I should read...For a moment I am perplexed, whether I should read this as a citizen (who can not afford power costs) or who has not been supplied with power regardless of its affordability. Though I know I may well stand in between. Times and again we hear comments, nice insights and outlooks of this and that. But no real commitment. Someone has got to be loyal to the right course. Moved by the idea of varied tariffs to companies that actually export, I am doomed to find out that the the exploitation of gas in Mtwara has not yet started and what has taken place is only the exploration. http://www.foreign.go.tz/index.php/news/more/tanzania_uk_and_norway_to_explore_gas_energy_in_mtwara_region/

The brilliant smack on point from the MP is that we seriously need people conservant and committed to this Government projects. We only have to see and believe in the big picture and brigher tomorrow than its-not-going-to last cents for being in an evaluation committee.

We need to now write a comprehensive project to revamp TANESCO. And we have to use the idea of 'big industries'- rather than the government- subsidising the generation and distribution of electricity in areas of less economic interests. Whether we treat electricity as a service or business, it has only to have a quality of service regulation associated with the its supply. And what happens when service consumers are supplied with poor services as per contract by the service provider.

The mobile phone spending issue raised by the MP, well i only means that Tanzanias are ready to spend a hard earned penny it is provides the utility it should. Mobile communications is now not a service of luxury. There are more attached to such a success.

I wish you all the best in your proposals, again I hope they will be radical and not gradual. And in case will be needed a consultant company to do such an evaluation (as we are infected by that idea)- we better do it. Many companies do not invest in this country and many other because regulatory risks are very high, and also stability and reliability of business necessities. It is about time we start thinking of exporting finished products rather than raw materials and import finished goods and levy a heavy tax. a vicious circle. Determined to break, and we are watching you. And encourage you. You have our trust in the first place, MP. thanksAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1964830726550749649.post-87425622816459749802011-06-30T12:44:25.986+03:002011-06-30T12:44:25.986+03:00This is a great article with great ideas. But befo...This is a great article with great ideas. But before we start thinking about moving to another and bigger steps and levels, we first need to improve and master the level we are in currently.

Firstly, TANESCO needs to improve its supply capacity by starting to repair its equipment which will result in delivering full energy supply and reduce power loss. That waste of energy which could have been used for the whole year, is only driving the opportunity costs upwards. Therefore, sloving this problem, will also decrease the unnecessary power cuts!

Secondly, TANESCO needs to improve its management and strategy. it's unimaginable to hear that, it's selling its power at lower price than the production cost per unit. This problem, is only putting the company in the worse situation than it is currently.

Lastly, the government needs to reduce those bureacracy and red tapes. As well known, the longer the process, the more chance corruption will be incurred. And, the shorter and clearer the process will be, the more effective and efficient the companies will opearte and thus attract investors.

After all, I still wonder who makes those decisions as what needs to be done first and what shouldn't. January mentioned that the government should. But he is also in the Parliament. I believe this is the key to the success or failure.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1964830726550749649.post-6147928466568545402011-06-29T21:03:16.768+03:002011-06-29T21:03:16.768+03:00I really like this kind of transparency Mheshimiwa...I really like this kind of transparency Mheshimiwa. You explained these details analytically and cautiously! Tanzanian professionals we need to work and advise our government professionally. What i see in your excellent explanation there are so many gaps in general power Planning in our country! The Point is you are using correct approaches in solving these problems (I personally trust your approaches). The issue is very clear! Now we can move from here!

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1964830726550749649.post-4367590013397603572011-06-29T15:52:48.523+03:002011-06-29T15:52:48.523+03:00My question is why keep looking for " investo...My question is why keep looking for " investors" and using our money to buy those generators for Tanesco to run and payback to the government?

Also, why I don't here any plans of tax relief to all small scale and major alternative energy projects and equipments?

But, the most painful of all the politicization of the issue to suit some of the people whom we now call heroes....and those who dared to speak objectively being bullied to remain quite or face political demonization....Omar Ilyashttp://www.omarilyas.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1964830726550749649.post-28735573649449959082011-06-29T15:13:30.335+03:002011-06-29T15:13:30.335+03:00Good, crisp rapid analysis of the situation. Why are we facing stumbling blocks as we try to address the crisis? I reckon there are too many mental models at play within the establishment that make an otherwise straightforward solution and action become a non-starter.
