There is not doubt that Tanzania is respected today because of the past foreign policies. Most leaders in power today in southern Africa spent time in Tanzania and were supported by the Tanzanian government at some point.

Malcolm made concerted effort to link up with African leaders in his quest to hold the US government accountable for the oppression of African Americans. Recently, the UN condemned US police brutality; this is something that Malcolm wanted addressed as far back as 1964. He sought OAU support for his efforts to take the US to the UN for similar abuses. Tanzania came through for him in Cairo. No other African American leader has sought to do the same through OAU or AU as far as I can ascertain.

Azaria Mbughunihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10973565795247065128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1964830726550749649.post-19924492005441440732014-09-09T12:57:48.120+03:002014-09-09T12:57:48.120+03:00Thanks for sharing this piece. My guess (and I might be wrong) is Tanzania is still respected, based on the past and not our current foreign policy interventions.

Its sad that Malcolm was the only civil rights leader who deliberately was looking to strenghtening ties with Africa. After his death it appears like Africa and African Americans do not really have any sort of relationship. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
